AUDIOVISION CANADA Receives Contract to Describe Selected National Film Board of Canada Titles
AudioVision Canada has been contracted by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) to describe a selection of film titles from the it's vast library. The described versions will be included on the NFB's current website to increase access to it by persons with either a vision or hearing disability. In addition to its existing online material, NFB will be creating a new website focusing on animation and it, too, will feature described titles.

We are so very proud and extremely delighted to be part of the vitally important task of making the uniquely Canadian works of the NFB fully accessible to all Canadians, says Bob Trimbee, President of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc. When we opened AudioVision Canada a decade ago, one of our first interests was in making the NFB library available to all persons regardless of their ability to see. The decision by NFB to begin describing its titles is a major step forward that certainly will improve the entertainment options for persons who are vision impaired.

AudioVision Canada is a division of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc., a not-for-profit service that provides access to print information in a broadcast format to Canadians with vision and print restrictions. Through a programming licence issued by the CRTC, VoicePrint Canada produces and delivers audio versions of the major stories published a number of Canadian daily newspapers. Through its Local Broadcast Centre initiatives, VoicePrint also provides audio versions of stories, editorials and grocery specials published by community papers to communities across Canada via the Internet.

Described video now is incorporated into the regulatory commitments of many major broadcasters. AudioVision Canada provides description services to these broadcasters as well as to producers looking to expand the audience that can fully enjoy their programming. In addition to descriptive services for new programming, AudioVision Canada has a library of more than 500 titles that offer described versions of both classic and recently released movies.
